About this project

This is an open-source exporation of creating live transcripts of speech on the web, that can be displayed (and edited) in real time on a big screen, or watched on anybody's personal device. The underlying transcription process is largely based on David Walsh's awesome blog post. The project was started by Mark Noonan at Code for Atlanta, where a growing number of people are learning and making contributions. The code is available on GitHub. Currently, any browser can watch a transcript, but only Chrome can generate them, because only Chrome has implemented the experimental Web Speech Recognition API Specification, so you will need to use Chrome for this page to work.

Naming Transcripts

You can name this transcript to save the results and allow others to access it live from their own devices. Or don't name it, and keep it private to just this browser window. If the transcript is not named, everything will be deleted when you close the page. If it has a name, it can be viewed in full by using that name on the Watch Transcript page.
